Criminal Minds season 13 episode 18: Joe Mantegna directing again
In a post on Twitter, Mantegna confirmed that he recently wrapped production on this episode, which is likely going to air at some point in either late March or early April. For those wondering about the title for said episode, CarterMatt has that for you: “The Dance of Love.” That sounds really sweet, but the reality here (this is Criminal Minds, after all) is that it’s probably going to be one of those episodes where there are a number of surprising twists and turns, some of them terrible, and also a deadly UnSub at the center of it all.
This marks the second episode of Criminal Minds season 13 that Mantegna is taking on this role for and his eighth episode as director of the show overall. While it is becoming more common for actors to take on this role for at least one episode a season (like we are starting to see with Katheryn Winnick over on Vikings), it is a little bit more uncommon to see it twice. The fact that Joe is working on his second episode this season is a testament to not only how much he likes the work, but how good he is at it. Directing is not an easy job and directing yourself is one of the hardest jobs out there.
New episodes of Criminal Minds are currently on hiatus, but should return come Wednesday, March 7. At that point we’re going to have a run of new episodes that takes us more or less all the way until you get to the end of the season in late April. Because of the season 3 premiere for Code Black, CBS needs to move Criminal Minds along to start up some other programming.
