Does The Gilded Age lower Downton Abbey revival odds?
Are you still hoping for a Downton Abbey revival in the future? We definitely do know that there is still some hope out there for it. This is definitely something we hear a little bit of buzz about every now and then, both from fans of the ITV series and also people who worked on it.
While we would say that this is a show that did have a proper series finale, at the same time it left the door open for SO much more. The majority of the series’ major characters were left alive at the end of the show, and with history moving forward it would be rather interesting to see where things are at Downton now.
However, there could be in theory a new complication entering the mix in the form of NBC’s new series The Gilded Age. The show, which is coming up as early as the fall, is going to be the latest project from show executive producers Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame. It’s a project that has been in the works for a rather-long time and we’re sure that for them, it’s a thrill to finally get this off of the ground.
As for whether or not this hurts the chances of more Downton Abbey, though, the obvious truth is that both men are going to be infinitely more busy than they’ve been in terms of television projects the past couple of years. It also could be the same with the cast, given that there is a reasonably good shot that there are some familiar faces who end up becoming a part of The Gilded Age who were on Downton Abbey. Producers often like to use actors that they are already familiar with from other series.
By and large, though, the thing to remember is that Downton Abbey was never intending to come back to do another full season in the first place. The majority of the conversation that has floated around there over time was the sort suggesting that maybe we’d be lucky enough to see some sort of feature film coming up … or maybe just another Christmas special. Either way, we do think that the Downton Abbey revival plans, if there really are plans in the works, can still move forward as though nothing is different. Those opportunities are still going to be there.
