Bring It Back 2018: Should Gotham, Hannibal, Blindspot, others be saved?
Do you want to see some of your favorite shows stay on the air in 2018? Identifying and campaigning for some of them is what our CarterMatt Bring It Back series is all about!
Over the course of the next few days we are going to bring forward some shows that, for one reason or another, are on the bubble of keep it or cancel it. We’ll present you shows in four groups of five, and then have you vote for the one you think deserves another season. The show with the most votes will move on to a final four showdown next week, where the winner will get the title of Bring It Back Champion. The whole focus of this article series is to try and generate positive publicity and buzz for shows that clearly deserve a lot more attention then they’ve been getting. If we can convince a network to “Bring It Back” when it comes to a readers’ favorite show then our work here is done.
Take a look below at the five shows featured today. Voting is open starting now until Thursday, January 18 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time (1:00 p.m. Pacific). That’s when the final four showdown will take place. If you cannot see the poll for some reason and you are on mobile, be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page and click to view the non-AMP version.
The shows featured today are as follows — Blindspot, The Exorcist, Gotham, Hannibal, Madam Secretary
Blindspot – The third season of the NBC favorite has drawn lower ratings, but that’s almost expected given that it’s airing at a far more challenging time in the week than it used to. Are the DVR ratings strong enough to make up for the lower live figures? We hope so, but it’s hard to gauge what the expectations are from the network at present.
The Exorcist – As of right now, there are serious reasons to be concerned for the Fox series’ future — it was a surprise renewal to some this past spring, and the uphill battle it faces for a season 3 is probably even more challenging.
Gotham – The good news for Gotham is that its ratings are better than either of the shows that are mentioned in this piece already. However, the bad news for Gotham at the moment is that its numbers are lower than most of Fox’s non-Friday series. Hopefully, global appeal and fun storytelling is enough to get the series at least one more kick at the can.
Hannibal – While it may seem strange on the surface to put a long-canceled show on the list here, there have been signs about a possible season 4 over the past several months. The interest is there; is now the time that a network chooses to pick the show up?
Madam Secretary – Finally, we turn to the Tea Leoni series — probably the best bet to stick around for another year out of the shows mentioned. While the ratings aren’t spectacular, there is a devoted following behind the series and it is entering syndication soon.
