Outlander season 4: The latest Caitriona Balfe story teases

We’re now a day and a half removed from the 2018 Golden Globes, and with that, CarterMatt is able to bring you more of the specific Outlander season 4 story teases that came from Caitriona Balfe’s red-carpet interviews.

What are some of the big highlights? How about hearing more about Jamie and Claire’s American experience, for starters?

While this may be a little bit more thematic than a specific tease regarding upcoming episodes, we do find what Balfe had to say to Elle about the influence geography and culture has on Jamie and Claire to be rather fascinating:

“We see Jamie and Claire as immigrants, as pioneers, and that’s a very interesting thing to watch … I think what Scotland meant to Jamie and Claire was such an integral part of the storyline, and so it’s really interesting to see these people as immigrants, and how they meet their native American neighbors and the relationships they forge with them. I’m excited about this season. I think it’s going to be really interesting.”

While Outlander is a series that is set in the past, we do think that there are unique opportunities every now and then for the series to speak more towards present day. What happens here in America with Jamie and Claire is one of these said opportunities. Are those close to them trusting of their status as new Americans, or do they become resentful of their presence or threatened that their own personal power will be usurped? This is an interesting, relevant point of conversation. We hope that the series gets a real chance to dive in and explore this conceptually.

On a different note, EW’s Lynette confirmed something else interesting on Twitter from Caitriona — she hasn’t filmed a season 4 scene just yet with Sophie Skelton (Brianna). Given that there were four episodes filmed at the time of the Globes, take from that what you will. We know that a reunion between Claire and her daughter is fairly high on the list of Outlander-related things that people are the most excited to see in season 4.

Ultimately, we can’t say that we’re surprised about this. Outlander is a show that does like to take its time, and the mechanics of Brianna and Claire sharing a scene together feels like a work in process. For one, Brianna has to be somewhere where she could travel through time; then, she’d actually have to do it, and following that she’d have to figure out a way to travel to wherever Claire is. There are a lot of dots that need to be connected here in order to make a reunion happen.

Outlander returns to Starz with new episodes come late 2018. Obviously, this is far from our last update; it may not even be our last update today.
