NCIS season 15 photo: A familiar face from JAG returns

Alas, there is no new episode of NCIS season 15 airing on CBS tonight, though that’s a sentiment we imagine most fans of the series were expecting. After all, there was no new episode of the CBS show airing last week and it’s relatively hard to find an occasion in which there was no new episode the week before Christmas only to suddenly have one airing the very next day. That’s just not something that happens.

So while you do wait for the series to return to CBS on Tuesday, January 2, how about looking at a photo for what is coming up? This image is actually from the upcoming January 9 episode of the show, and it features something notable for some of the really old-school fans of this show and the one that it’s based on in JAG — an appearance from none other than Patrick Labyorteaux as Bud Roberts, Jr. This character finds himself essential to the upcoming case at hand and it’s going to be up to the remainder of the NCIS team in order to find a way to use him. Roberts knows a thing or two about some of their work and will be eager to help.

As we’ve reported recently this is not the only appearance that Patrick has made on the show over the past couple of years; yet, overall it does still feel as though his presence is a relative rarity on the show given that we’re talking here about someone whose gigs have been fairly few and far between on NCIS over the years. He made an appearance in the first season, but then did not come back for well over a decade.

As we’ve said a few times over it’s pretty fantastic that we continue to see appearances from JAG alum across the entire NCIS franchise, if for no other reason than that it represents the show looking back fondly at its own past. Without JAG there would be no NCIS, which means in turn that CBS would probably not be the same network that it now is.
