Outlander season 4 filming prepares for holiday hiatus
In a post on Twitter first assistant director Patrick Conroy confirmed that Thursday marks the last day of filming before a much-deserved holiday break — hence, all of the Christmas sweaters and happy faces in the image below! Given that filming has been underway in Scotland for the better part of the past two and a half months (give or take), it’s nice that everyone will have a little bit of a chance to relax and unwind for the holidays.
Just think about how hard some of these crew members have worked on this show over the past year. Season 3 filming was taking place in early 2017 in Scotland, and then it eventually went down to South Africa for the spring. While not everyone within the show’s Scottish crew was there we saw plenty of them that did. Now, they’re back at work in Scotland and we have to say that is a LOT of work for the past twelve months. They’re one of the hardest-working crews in the business, and remember that these are the people who have to set things up, build sets, and make sure that the lighting and sound are working properly. They often start work earlier in the year than the cast and work well past when others have wrapped up.
As for when filming for Outlander season 4 will resume, we imagine that it will be back up and running in January. From there, it’ll likely keep going (with maybe some small breaks here and there) until the late spring / early summer. Filming is often a nine-month endeavor, and then you have to attach post-production on top of that. Season 4 is set to premiere at some point in 2018, and will feature Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) working to start their lives anew in America. While they were never planning to be there, sometimes fate takes you where fate takes you. They will do their best in order to make the most of their new surroundings.
From CarterMatt to all of the Outlander cast and crew…
Have a great holiday break! Also, drink plenty of hot cocoa and eggnog (okay, maybe not too much eggnog).
Just because filming is over for the time being doesn’t mean that our own coverage will be taking a hiatus as well. We’ll continue to have at least one update on the show every day until Christmas, including some pieces geared around many of the different characters and also discussions / debates on a season 5 renewal.
