The Bachelor spotlight: Amber Wilkerson, fashion blogger and fan of Steve Jobs

Amber Wilkerson

Amber Wilkerson is the second contestant on The Bachelor with Arie Luyendyk Jr., and there’s one thing we’ve figured out: She loves fashion. She’s got a fashion blog in Every Once in a Style (get it?), her Instagram is all about fashion, and she’s already got an email address for a publicist in her bio.

Given how much she’s promoting brands and more in her blog, she’s actually not promoting her appearance on The Bachelor all that much. That typically means one of two things — she either hated her time on the show or didn’t make it far enough. We certainly could see the latter in this case. She’s someone who seems very focused on her brand and we don’t quite think her interests line up with Arie Luyendyk Jr. This show may be too silly for her in between their silly outfits, corny dates, and women fighting with other people.

It doesn’t take a whole lot of brainpower to understand why Amber wanted to do the show. If she makes it far enough, her Instagram is probably going to explode fifty times over. Don’t get us wrong — we do think that she and many other contenders on the ABC show do want love. We just think that they also want a social media following and a chance to do other shows/fame in the process. There’s nothing altogether wrong with that.

There are a couple of things that do interest us about Amber from her bio — she was in theater in high school, she once carried a giant python in an effort to echo Britney Spears’ VMA performance (it didn’t happen), and apparently she wants to have dinner with both Steve Jobs and Kim Kardashian in her dream scenario. In all of our years of reading cheesy / terrible Bachelor bios we’re not sure we’ve ever seen two people more in opposition to each other.

What’s her upside? – That she gets to resurrect her theater career for a group date on the show, she has a couple of unintentionally-funny moments, and she somehow does enough to get on Bachelor in Paradise. We just don’t see Amber being the sort who is going to open up enough on this show to be the winner; it feels like she went into the show with a specific gameplan in mind. This may not have been the right season for her to be on.

Still, we know it’s tough trying to get a website off the ground — good on her for having the hustle!
