Shadowhunters season 3A finishes filming
In a new post on the show’s official Twitter account (see below), it was 100% confirmed that the latest batch of episodes is now done — at least from the filming perspective. There is still a good bit of other work that will be done here, but the bulk of that is going to take place behind the scenes. Think in terms of editing, post-production, and adding in a wide array of necessary special effects in order to give all of these episodes the necessary Shadowhunters look.
What the end of Shadowhunters season 3A means effectively is that we are going to see the cast get a little bit of a break and then work on season 3B, which will probably premiere at some point later on in 2018. It has already been confirmed that the first half of the season is going to premiere in the spring, and it will hopefully pick up not too far following where season 2 left off. Remember that there are a number of interesting stories and characters that we’ve got to explore, with the Big Bad Lilith being among them. She was teased within the closing seconds at the end of season 2.
Why split the two halves of the season? One of the simplest reasons for this is that batches of ten episodes are easier to promote and air than 20 all at once, especially since there are inevitably going to be some viewers who fall during them airing. Spacing out the batches gives everyone a proper chance to catch up, and we absolutely want to see the Shadowhunters ratings as strong as possible just as a means to ensure that the show gets renewed by Freeform for a season4 . We’re optimistic that it will happen but never want to be one to count the metaphorical chickens before they hatch.
