Outlander season 4 premiere date: When could Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe be back?
However, for now this is a question without an official answer. The Outlander season 4 premiere date is not going to be revealed for a rather long time. Starz is in no immediate hurry to announce it, though we do have a sense as to what some of the plans are behind the scenes. We’ve heard from show executive producer Ronald D. Moore proclaim that he would like to see the fourth season air in the fall much like the third season did, and the filming timeline has been properly orchestrated in order to make that happen. Filming started up on season 4 in early October, and as of right now there are a couple months of footage in the can. Production is expected to continue on this season until late spring and early summer.
The majority of season 4 filming is taking place in Scotland, but there is some footage being shot in other parts of Europe as well. Scotland is doubling for North Carolina in season 4, which is the primary setting for Drums of Autumn, the next book in the Diana Gabaldon series. From a production standpoint, this seems to make the most sense so that the same people will remain involved behind the scenes. When you have a crew as good as this you don’t want to give them up.
While you wait for the Outlander season 4 premiere date announcement there is likely going to be a lot of news in the weeks/months to come. Starz knows that this is one of their biggest hits, and the same goes for the studio over at Sony. Both parties are going to keep working in order to ensure that the series remains every bit as popular in season 4 as it’s been in season 3. Keeping the hype going is essential to that.
For now, let’s just note two dates: September 9 and September 16, 2018. These are, by our estimation, the likely premiere dates Starz could be circling.
As for the future beyond season 4…
Starz has yet to officially confirm Outlander for a season 5; while we’ve noted repeatedly that a renewal would be a nice Christmas present for all of the cast and crew, there is no immediate urgency for it to happen. Provided that a renewal happens by some point in the spring, production should be able to continue forward on the same course for season 5 that it is on for season 4.
Don’t take the long wait as a sign of uncertainty; remember that there are always a ton of legal discussions and things to work out when you renew the show for another season. We already know that renewal talks are underway; the question at the moment is just when a season 5 will be confirmed.

Next autumn seems appropriate. To match
the title of the next book.

I know a lot of people would like to see Season 4 premiere next week–which is impossible, of course. Next September would be fine with me and with those who like the show.

I don’t want season 5. I don’t want to look again at the strong feminist woman-doctor. And the love story of Jamie and Claire ended in season 1, unfortunately.
