Kristin Chenoweth on uncertain American Gods season 2 future
There are a couple of different factors that play into how much of Chenoweth (and some other actors from the first season) we end up seeing. For one, you’ve got the source material utilizing some different characters at a wide array of different times. It’s possible that the Easter character isn’t a huge part of season 2 based on the new showrunner’s vision … which brings us to the next factor. Bryan Fuller and Michael Green were the showrunners on the Starz drama, but with their recent departure that puts the future of Chenoweth and others up in the air.
For more on that, here is what Chenoweth had to say in a new interview with TV Guide:
“When Bryan was the showrunner, I was coming back for several episodes, but I don’t know now … It depends on who it is and if they think I add value or not.”
How can Kristin Chenoweth not add value to something? We do know that she and Fuller do have a longstanding relationship — the two parties worked together on Pushing Daisies many years ago — and that may have played into Fuller wanting to use her even more than Easter was around in the source material. If she’s not around this season, hopefully American Gods manages to get a season 3 and we get to see her more then — based on what we saw from her at the end of the first season she was clearly one of the most formidable characters within the entire series.
Hopefully, we will have some more news on the future of American Gods soon — as sad as we are about the exits of Green and Fuller (they are two of the best showrunners in the business), we are nonetheless still happy that this is a show with a great cast, great source material, and plenty of potential moving into season 2. Here’s to hoping that the right person is being brought in for the job.
