Big Brother: Celebrity Edition premiere date official; casting chatter
Want to know the Big Brother: Celebrity Edition premiere date on CBS? Well CarterMatt has some news on that as well as some casting chatter.
Let’s begin by keeping things simple and focusing on the premiere date: Big Brother: Celebrity Edition starts on Wednesday, February 7 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. This all but confirms many of the rumors that are out there that this is meant to be a hyper-condensed version of the main CBS show featuring a celebrity cast, and one designed to go up against the Winter Olympics. Maybe if this is successful the network will figure out another way to use the format in the future, but we cannot imagine it going too far past February given that CBS will need to get back to its normal schedule; also, we don’t think that it’s great for the Big Brother franchise in North America to compete against Big Brother Canada, even if CBS has no skin in the game with our neighbors to the north. Update: We can confirm that Big Brother: Celebrity Edition will conclude on February 25.
New episodes of Big Brother: Celebrity Edition will air throughout the week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays, and even some Fridays and Saturdays. Also, Big Brother: Celebrity Edition seems to be the name we’re now going with, which makes sense so that it’s not confused with Celebrity Big Brother, the popular, hyper-cheesy version of the show that airs in the UK.
As for what this premiere date means in regards to casting, we still have a hard time buying into about 80% of the casting rumors that are out there. Remember that typically casting for the main Big Brother isn’t finalized this far in advance, and with celebrities there could be even more flux if people drop out at the last minute. Also, it makes sense for Big Brother: Celebrity Edition to operate somewhat similar to Dancing with the Stars where they also cast based on up-to-the-last-minute relevancy. A good example of that was train hero Alek Skarlatos being cast right before his season of Dancing with the Stars when he first entered the headlines. It benefits CBS to be up to date on that sort of stuff.
We would expecting casting news to come out in January; It’s much too early at the start of December. If you did miss it, we recently shared our own personal wishlist for the show. Read that and enjoy!
