Longmire season 6 episode 6 review: Is Walt’s wrongful death case at an end?
Instead, it was none other than Jacob Nighthorse of all people who bailed Walt out, going onto the stand and, after a request from Cady, referred to him as an honorable man. Jacob may not love Walt, but he’s also a man of certain principles. He recognized that going against Walt was going against most of his principles and that’s not something that he wanted to do — especially in the wake of Malachi Strand still being on the run.
Do we think that Jacob is keeping some information on Malachi close to the vest? Probably not, but he still probably needs to do something in order to convince those around him that he’s not guilty. Standing up for Walt may be a feather in his cap. Beyond that, we also think that Nighthorse is smart enough to know that Walt is, in his mind, the devil he knows. It’s probably better to deal with him, even if he doesn’t like him, than someone who is a complete mystery to him.
Nighthorse showed that he’s not just about to be a Longmire family pawn, though — he (alongside the tribal council) was not so interested in helping Cady with a case of a sick child who needed care and wasn’t getting it. Jacob remains business-focused, and he’s not just out to help Cady for the sake of charity. Not that he should really want to, given that we’re dealing with someone who beat him earlier this season with a stick.
Zachary is back
Well, at least he is for now! Barry Sloane came back in this episode as a source of information, and it was super-nice to get him back with Adam Bartley. The Ferg – Zachary relationship was so much fun two years ago and we SO wanted to see the two of them go get a drink at the Red Pony. That didn’t happen, but Zachary proved himself to be a worthy source with some detective skills as he tried to point the Sheriff’s department in a certain direction on a grisly murder and criminal operation.
CarterMatt Verdict
The Henry – Hector story had a few entertaining moments in season 6 episode 6, but the memory that we’re really left with here is Walt being able to walk out of the courthouse feeling happy and hopeful for his future for once. His attorney proved to be worth his mettle despite being a total outsider, and the Sheriff seems to be in the clear — for now. To think, this was a man who contemplated retirement at one point earlier in the episode.
Overall, another great episode in what is turning out to be another great season.
