Major Crimes season 6 episode 3 review: ‘Sanctuary City Part 3’
The episode picked up where last week’s left off with the squad questioning Father Stan about Father Jonas’s whereabouts. As it turns out, Father Jonas did leave for Mexico, causing tensions between the church and the LAPD. While we didn’t see Father Jonas make an appearance tonight, the squad did focus on someone else, Marvin Garrett. From the hundreds of hours of video Buzz has combed through the team found a way to question him by arresting him for having an illegal firearm. In doing so, the squad was also able to question Kelly, Garrett’s daughter who had was dating Lucas and friends with the other two. She revealed that she loved Lucas despite her father’s disapproval and that she suspected Ryan had a crush on Miguel, who revealed he was gay to Father Jonas. She also stated that the boys wanted to get the ultimate selfie doing something crazy, but she didn’t know exactly what.
After spending much of the hour thoroughly investigating Marvin Garrett and finding that he didn’t kidnap the boys, but was guilty of trying to rid the world of illegals, the squad also discovered something more. They learned that Father Jonas was transferred from parish to parish because he was having affairs with married women in these parishes.
From here, the big question is how does this all fit together to equal murder? Well, this is where EP James Duff is definitely confusing fans. He’s teasing viewers and in some ways dragging this case out. Don’t get us wrong, the case is extremely interesting, but at points it feels like the episode could be shortened, like we possibly don’t need five parts to tell this story. The only thing we can hope for now is that in the end everything is tied together in a nice bow that makes us clap our hands together because it all makes sense now.
In addition to the case, Rusty continues to conduct his own investigation of Philip Stroh and the people he is killing in connection with him. He starts by asking Buzz to get him case files from the local police stations, which Buzz agrees to do. It is also revealed that Rusty is continuing to practice at the LAPD firing range either with Sharon or Andy. This small bit of information should put a smile on fans’ faces as this means Rusty is spending more and more time with his soon-to-be-stepfather.
Now let’s get back to the shocking ending and man, James Duff really likes to end episodes with some health crisis. This time is was Sharon, who fainted and appeared to be having trouble breathing along with with chest pains. Now we know that some of you are thinking heart attack or stroke or something else along those lines, but here’s why we don’t believe that to be true. One, they’ve already done a serious health issue with Andy and two, it would over do it. We believe she is having a panic attack. It would make sense. She’a planning a wedding, trying to look for two missing boys, and having her faith tested beyond anything she thought possible. Of course, she’s going to feel like she’s losing control of her life and she’s allowed to feel stressed and overwhelmed.
Overall, this episode revealed some but also added more confusion and questions to the case and like we’ve mentioned above we hope that in the end we can look back and see how everything connected together.
