Supergirl season 3 spoilers: Is a different side to Lena Luthor coming?

Lena Luthor

Supergirl season 3 is airing one of its biggest episodes of the entire season on Monday night, especially when it comes to Lena Luthor. This is someone who, (through most of the season so far) has established herself as a good boss and a good friend for Kara Danvers. She’s pulled out the boss card with Kara before, but it was for a very understandable reason given that Kara wasn’t pulling her weight at work. Lena doesn’t know that Kara is Supergirl, and as a result of that expects the same things out of her professionally that she does anyone else.

So what happens on Monday when Lena’s alignment is a little bit different? Let’s just say that in her efforts to go against Morgan Edge we could see a more ruthless and angry version of Katie McGrath’s character than we’ve seen to date. It puts Kara in a tough position since she does want to support her friend — but, if she goes too far down the hole, will she really be able to up that support? Supergirl is all about supporting what is right and just. Lena does care about other people, but she also doesn’t have any problem destroying rivals who are in her way. Morgan Edge, (through his appearances on the show) represents that perfectly.

In speaking more about some of the struggles that lie ahead in this episode to Entertainment Weekly, series star Melissa Benoist had the following to say:

“Kara is willing and ready to stand up for her best friend by any means possible … Lena’s maybe [on a] slippery slope onto what you could sadly call her birthright. I don’t know for sure, but it is a fragile balance beam that they’re walking on, these two as friends in the way that Lex and Superman had.”

This should make everyone nervous that one day Lena will become to Kara the same thing that Lex is to Superman — an enemy like no other. If Lena ever does go the way of the adversary she would be one of the most notorious ones out there in this universe. Remember that this is a woman who has almost unlimited resources and plenty of evil mentors close by. If she wants to be evil, who is going to be around to tell her that this is not an altogether good idea? Not many people based on what we’ve seen so far.
