NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 5 video: Deeks, Kensi’s ‘Mounteback’ mystery

NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 5 is coming to CBS this Sunday, and based on the new sneak peek we have for you here at CarterMatt (which you can check out below), things are going to get intense.

The title for this episode is “Mountebank,” and there is some meaning behind that if you’re unfamiliar with it. Basically, it is a charlatan, a grifter, or someone who is intentionally trying to deceive other people and keep them from getting what they want.

You can see Deeks and Kensi in this sneak peek trying to make sense of a recorded message for their latest case — the word mountebank is mentioned, but there’s no clear indicator as to what it means through the lens of what the team is trying to do. We are mostly hoping that Deeks and Kensi get a chance to be front and center when it comes to this case! Nobody likes it when Deeks gets sidelined.

At first, we thought that this was going to be a fairly ordinary sneak peek for the show with Deeks and Kensi before we learned about one thing that is certainly rather different: The idea of the “sleepless elite.” This is a subject that Deeks brings up when discussing potential outcomes of this case/what is really going on. Maybe the culprit is a part of the rare select group of people who can function with little to no sleep and be just fine? It sounds like a gift — for the record though, we are not a part of the sleepless elite. Far from it, in fact. Sleep is amazing.

Do we still think that Deeks’ random fun facts help make the show as entertaining as it is? Absolutely — Deeks, please don’t ever change. You’re amazing just the way you are — this has to be the first time we’ve quoted Bruno Mars in any sort of NCIS-related article ever and you should probably expect more of it in the future.
