Grey’s Anatomy season 14 spoilers: Kevin McKidd teases lighter Owen Hunt ahead

Grey's Anatomy season 13 episode 23 review

Grey’s Anatomy on Thursday night featured a powerful Kevin McKidd performance, just as it also contained many revelations. Owen Hunt’s sister Megan decided to get a fresh start elsewhere, and Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) decided to go there with her. The two had their hardships and mistakes in their past, but they were ready to try again and Owen was supportive of it.

However, in the process of all of this we also saw Owen make one of the biggest moves that he’s made on the show in years, opting to tell Amelia that their relationship just wasn’t working — following the brain tumor and everything else they’d gone through, they just didn’t have anything for each other. They removed the rings and with that, a new start feels like it’s around the corner.

If you do want a little more insight on how Owen’s doing and what he is planning for now in the future, just take a look at what McKidd had to say on this subject in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“Owen’s been very weighed down — he was the Chief, the helicopter crash happened, everything that happened with Cristina (Sandra Oh) — I think he’s weighed himself down with feeling badly for many years and feeling like things are his fault and that he has something to make up for in some way in his life … It’s quite a deep-rooted psychological issue that he has that has definitely shifted, so we’ll see Owen give himself a break and have some fun.”

We’re not altogether sure if Owen will be in a hurry in order to get somewhere else in his romantic life, but in the event he does there is an option there in Teddy. Kim Raver’s character has long held feelings for him, and the two did exchange a kiss earlier this season before he knew about Amelia’s tumor and felt like she was intentionally shoving him to the side. Raver’s own future on the show is a little bit unclear, but the option is there if this is something that the series wants to explore.

For now, though, we just want to see him happy since he has, in fact, really been through hell. The same goes for Amelia. These two just need a break, and hopefully some of their friends and colleagues around them will be able to offer that in some form. We do know that next week, we could consider many of the men on the show try to have a little bit of fun courtesy of a boat trip — if you’re interested in a little more insight now on that subject you can get that over at the link here.
