The Alienist: TNT adds psychological thriller to lineup
The Alienist, according to the network, “opens when a series of haunting, gruesome murders of boy prostitutes grips New York City. Newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt calls upon criminal psychologist (a.k.a. alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler and newspaper illustrator John Moore to conduct the investigation in secret. They are joined by Sara Howard, a headstrong secretary determined to become the city’s first female police detective. Using the emerging disciplines of psychology and early forensic investigation techniques, this band of social outsiders set out to find and apprehend one of New York City’s first serial killers.”
This series is just the show that TNT will need. With the recent announcement that Major Crimes was cancelled, TNT is going to need another series that could potentially attract a huge fanbase. The Alienist’s plot is very intriguing and goes along with the police/criminal type series that fans of Major Crimes would be interested in.
Another interesting aspect to this series is its cast. The main cast includes Daniel Brühl stars as Dr. Laszlo Kriezler, Luke Evans joins as John Moore, Dakota Fanning will play Sara Howard, and Brian Geraghty stars as the future president Theodore Roosevelt. In addition, Douglas Smith and Matthew Shear join the cast as Marcus and Lucius Isaacson, twin brothers who will play a part in unravelling the mystery. Matt Lintz and Robert Ray Wisdom have signed on to play Stevie and Cyrus, respectively. Stevie is described as a “tough, young boy employed by Dr. Kreizler as a driver and errant boy.” Cyrus is Kreizler’s valet, with a dark past. Finally, Q’orianka Kilcher will play Mary, “Kreizler’s mute maid with whom he shares a special unknown connection.”
All of these characters have intriguing descriptions and have all the right ingredients for a great series and one that could be a success for the network.
However, only time will tell and we look forward to checking out this new series.
