Legends of Tomorrow season 3: Victor Garber leaving, per reports
According to a report from Deadline, Garber will depart his role as Martin Stein some point during this season, which means that for the second time, the DC – CW universe will be missing one half of Firestorm. Previously Ronnie Raymond (Robbie Amell) played one half of the character, but after that character’s death he was replaced by Jefferson Jackson a.k.a. Jax (Franz Drameh). Our feeling is that the show will eventually try to find a replacement other half for Firestorm if it is renewed, which seems likely given the mostly-positive reviews for the show and pretty solid ratings retention one episode into the season.
Garber is going to be departing seemingly to work for the Hello, Dolly! revival on Broadway starting early next year, and this will allow him to settle back into a life in New York. The aforementioned site reported that Garber’s exit has been rumored for several months now, so this news should not come as a tremendous surprise to anyone. In some ways, we consider that Legends of Tomorrow was lucky to have the acting veteran in the first place given his tremendous resume. He’s been striking out onto other shows as of late to begin with, having appeared in the pilot for The Orville on Fox along with a return to Starz’s Power in the role of Simon Stern. He originally played Professor Stein over on The Flash, and chose to come over to Legends of Tomorrow when the show first formed a few years back.
Hopefully, the writers at the heart of the show will find a unique way to write out Stein that makes sense of his character. Given Garber’s stature and the love out there for Martin Stein the last thing that we want to see is a situation in which the character is killed off — granted, even if he does this is clearly a universe that has been set up where people can come back from the past or in many different forms. Just remember that Leonard Snart a.k.a. Captain Cold died at the end of season 1 and Wentworth Miller still made appearances on both The Flash as well as Legends this past year. He is currently slated to be making even more in the near future.
