Supergirl season 3 episode 1 video analysis: Morgan Edge vs. Lena Luthor

Morgan Edge is one of the new characters you are going to have a chance to meet on Supergirl season 3 episode 1 Sunday. Based on the new sneak peek below, it definitely looks like he is going to mean business. This character (played by Adrian Pasdar) is a powerful, shrewd businessman, and one of the ways in which he seems to operate is by getting under people’s skin.

For the sake of this particular scene, it’s Lena Luthor that he is tying to make uncomfortable, doing his best to remind her continually of one thing: Guilt. Has she donated millions of dollars in order to help people in need in National City? Sure, but is that mostly because of how she feels about her brother’s actions? Is she doing it because she genuinely cares? Morgan challenges her and insinuates that she’s in cahoots with CatCo, getting great press for L Corp as a result of it.

What is valuable about this preview, other than getting exposed to Pasdar’s super-devious character (he’s great at these sort of roles), is that you do get a sense of some of the business focus of Supergirl season 3. We anticipate seeing more of this with Katie McGrath now a series regular and with Calista Flockhart returning once more as Cat Grant. We’ll understand more of how Lena operates her company and how she handles people who work for her. After all, one of her employees for this coming season will eventually be Samantha Arias, a woman who eventually becomes the Worldkiller villain Reign and the Big Bad of the season. Will bringing her on board create an attachment, one in which blinds Lena to the truth about who Samantha eventually become?

For those of you who love to speculate over romance, maybe you will see this video as a sign that there could be something forming between both Lena and James Olsen. After all, we learned going into the season that James was going to get a new love interest — we’re all for that, given that Mehcad Brooks felt relatively underutilized for much of the second season. Given that there aren’t too many available female candidates for James it’s probably either going to be Lena or Samantha that he romances — we certainly don’t see it being Kara again, given that she’s still going to hold a candle for Mon-El.
