Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off casts The Flash, Hamilton actors
According to a new report coming in right now via Deadline, the following performers are going to be added to the ensemble for this new ABC series, one that already includes Rosewood alum Jaina Lee Ortiz as well as current Grey’s Anatomy cast member Jason George (Ben Warren).
Grey Damon – The former Aquarius actor, who was mostly recently the Mirror Master on The Flash, will be playing the part of Lieutenant Jack.
Okieriete Onaodowan – The Hamilton performer (we know Shonda Rhimes to be an enormous fan of all things Hamilton) will be taking on the part of Dean.
Danielle Savre – The Heroes / Hollywood Heights actress will be playing the part of Maya.
Barrett Doss – Finally, the Iron Fist performer will be coming on board in the role of Victoria.
Grey’s Anatomy co-showrunner Stacy McKee is writing the pilot for the spin-off, and is expected to be one of the primary creatives for it whenever it happens to premiere. One of the thoughts at present is that the still-unnamed show will be coming at some point this spring following the original show — it’s a chance to build more of a strong Thursday stable with Scandal ending. Grey’s Anatomy is in its 14th season but is showing no sign of slowing down. Therefore, this move is largely one designed in order to accent the schedule as opposed to being the man thing that supports it. We certainly have proof at the moment that firefighters can make for compelling television, given that Chicago Fire over time has become one of the best series of its kind. It’s dramatic, fascinating, and allows for many of its characters to have great moments in the sun. It also has a number of great moments of humor, which is something that Grey’s Anatomy also excels at.
On paper, everything suggests that the firefighter spin-off should work. We also do like the diversity and the talent of some of the people involved; we’re probably going to continue to be bummed about The Flash losing Damon, given that Mirror Master is one of our favorite comic-book villains and the show didn’t quite do enough in order to completely replicate him.
What’s your level of excitement for the Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spin-off?
Be sure to let us know in the comments! Of course, there’s a lot to look forward to and/or dread from the flagship Grey’s Anatomy itself, including the situation right now with Amelia. We recently wrote about that situation here at CarterMatt, and you can check that subject out now over at the link here.
