Leslie Jones, Saturday Night Live cast members loved angering Donald Trump
Also, this is not a show that is going to lay off of the Trump-spoofing anytime soon, either. Remember that Baldwin is going to be appearing as Trump again for the upcoming season, and with everything that happened this summer, it is pretty darn clear that they’ve got plenty of comedic fodder.
One thing that we also know now is that most of the cast of the show found great fun in finding some ways to anger the Commander-in-Chief. For more on that, she said the following to the New York Times in a far-reaching interview:
“We loved that. Of course we loved it. You just want to see him turn red and orange, all the colors.”
Jones added that she doesn’t typically dive all that much into politics in general, calling the subject matter “heavy” and that she’s only become more informed than she used to be as a result of being on the show. She’s also honored to receive her first Emmy nomination this year, but feels mostly that her goal is to “bring the funny” and not really worry about anything else.
In general, it’s hard to imagine there being too many better pure entertainers out there than Leslie Jones, or people with greater perspectives on life. This is someone who’s dealt with a lot of negative garbage over the past few years, and still somehow figures out a way to go online and live-tweet Game of Thrones and some of her other favorite shows. She hasn’t let her sudden rise in celebrity change her or how she operates with her fans. (We also like to think her support is one of the larger reasons that Timeless got renewed by the network earlier this year.)
We’ll get a better shot to learn a little bit later this year whether or not Jones actually ends up winning the Emmy — she’s up against one of her fellow female cast members in Kate McKinnon, but we do still think that she has a reasonably good shot at it.
Of course, you can catch new episodes of Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update Summer Edition on NBC Thursday nights. Hopefully, that helps to tide you over until the show comes back in the fall.
