Major Crimes season 6 to include 100th episode; see cast celebration!
For the time being, the biggest thing that we can tease is that the cast and crew just had their big celebration of hitting that milestone! In the photo below, you can see Mary McDonnell, Tony Denison, and many other cast members congregating around a well-decorated cake (great use of the crime scene tape, no?) commemorating the milestone. It’s not something that too many shows get to these days — it’s not a given that you make it that far into a series’ run, especially in this modern day when there is SO much competition and so many other things people can do rather than watch a television show. This is especially true for cable, given that so many shows have short seasons and end after three or four years.
For now, the best thing to do is to salute Major Crimes for all of their hard work getting to this point — it wasn’t easy, but they did it. The show has endured to date many timeslot changes, scheduling quirks, and big surprises in terms of the story. It’s also adapted itself from a strict crime procedural to a story with many more serialized components. It’s changed to suit more of what TNT has become over the past couple of years, with the story-of-the-week model starting to fade away.
Are we worried that Major Crimes season 6 is going to be the end of the road for the franchise? We’d be lying if we were to sit here and pretend that it wasn’t on our mind. Nonetheless, we’re doing our best to stay confident that in one way or another there could be more of the show down the road. Even if there isn’t for whatever reason, it’s easy to be eternally grateful that we even got this much. 100 episodes plus everything that happened on The Closer is one of the longest runs for a cable franchise in history.

Matt, do you know if this is the only spinoff to go 100+ episodes?
I seriously don’t know how TNT can cancel this show given the viewership on their new direction shows, particularly Will and Good Behavior. Frankly, I am more concerned with James and the cast saying they are done.
I was more shocked to see TNT promoting it. They have been lean on giving MC fans any extras and shoving the new direction down our throats.
All I can say is that this late start better not screw with our additional episodes.

It’s certainly not the only spin-off, but maybe on cable! I’ll have to do some research.
