Grey’s Anatomy season 14: Bridget Regan on Abigail Spencer casting

Bridget Regan

One of the biggest bits of casting news leading into Grey’s Anatomy season 14 was actually a recasting: Bridget Regan is no longer playing Megan Hunt. The actress, who is a series regular over on The Last Ship and a frequent guest star over on Jane the Virgin, had to bow out due to scheduling commitments.

Luckily, executive producer Shonda Rhimes and her team did find a wonderful replacement in the form of Abigail Spencer. The Timeless star has some room in her schedule (the NBC series is still months off from filming), and this gives her enough time to step into this role for a while. She’s great, and Regan seems to agree judging from her reaction to the casting. It’s a super-classy move on her to cheer Spencer on, and Abigail herself noted on Twitter that she considers herself to be her “back up dancer” in the role. (We’ll see how long the role lasts, but obviously Spencer’s casting signals that Megan will not appear in every episode.)

For those wondering how Spencer will be able to replicate Regan’s appearance as Megan (see the photo above), she did post a photo recently of herself with red hair. Maybe that was a sign that this was happening before any other evidence first came out?

Grey’s Anatomy season 14 began production last month, but the show did something a little bit unusual in taking off to Seattle in the early going. While this was far from the first time that we’ve seen the show do something on location, it’s not an annual thing that they do and they certainly don’t often bring as many cast members on the trip as they did here. These shots are going to be used presumably throughout much of the season, but many of them may also be saved for a special episode. One thing to remember is that the 300th episode of the show is going to be airing on ABC this year, and it’s already fair to presume that there are some big things that the producers have planned for it.

When will you see Bridget Regan back on TV?

You’re not going to be forced into waiting all that long, given that the season 4 premiere of The Last Ship is airing on TNT in just a couple of weeks. Her character Sasha is tied very closely to Tom Chandler (former show star Eric Dane), so we figure that there are going to be a wide array of different reasons to see her. For the record, you can check out a trailer for the upcoming season of the show by heading over to the link here.
