Could Doctor Who season 11 premiere date with Jodie Whittaker be fall 2018?

Doctor Who season 11 premiere date

We know that Doctor Who season 11 may have Jodie Whittaker as its star, but there are still some other big questions … including when it will premiere.

There are a number of people out there who are starting to think that this new batch of episodes featuring Whittaker could come as early as the fall of next year, which we do think is possible in theory … but is also a very optimistic timeline given that no Companion has been cast at present and we’ve yet to even see Jodie as Thirteen onscreen. Her first appearance will be coming during the upcoming Christmas Special airing a little bit later this year.

One of the biggest reasons for some of this theorizing comes via a recent comment made from showrunner Steven Moffat to Doctor Who Magazine. Within this, he describes further why it was important for him to stay with the series while The BBC waited for new showrunner Chris Chibnall to be done with his previous show in Broadchurch:

“The alternative [to me stopping] might have been to have had no Doctor Who at all between Christmas 2015 and the autumn of 2018.”

We personally see Moffat’s comments mostly as him speaking figuratively. We do think that ideally, the producers would love to have Doctor Who season 11 on the air in the fall of next year, but it’s much too early for anything to be set in stone given that there are so many things that could change from now until then. For one, you don’t want to rush anything! One of the things that

For one, you don’t want to rush anything! One of the things that are great about British television is that by and large, there is less pressure put upon content creators to adhere to certain deadlines, sacrificing quality in the process. If the show needs more time, it will have more time. Patience is super-necessary given that you don’t want to be in a situation where Whittaker’s debut is rushed. There are so many people out there who are being overly cynical and in some cases sexist about her hire, so it’s important to have a really strong premiere right out of the gate to silence some of those people and show that this is a new version of the show worth watching. We certainly believe that it will be, no matter when it airs.

Even if for whatever reason there is no new season airing in the fall, you can still bank on there being another Christmas Special coming at the end of next year. This has become quite an enormous staple of the series over the past several years.
