Designated Survivor season 2 spoilers: Ben Lawson joins as series regular
Here is what we know for now. Per Deadline, the actor will play the part of an MI-6 operative by the name of Damian Rennett, someone who means Hannah (Maggie Q) while undercover posing as a Dutchman in The Netherlands. The two parties have a very complicated relation — there was hesitancy between the two at one point, but it eventually transforms into much more and they develop both romantic feelings and also a competitive edge. Both parties may be so good at their jobs that they want to be the first one to flex their agent muscles. Sometimes, that can be a good thing for getting the job done; at other points, it can often lead to chaos.
Lawson’s most-prolific work as an actor came as a part of the series Neighbours, but beyond that he was very recently a part of the short-lived CBS drama Doubt. Some of the other credits for the Australian actor include The Deep End, Covert Affairs, and the very-funny Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 starring Krysten Ritter. He’s done a wide array of different stuff, so it should prove rather interesting to see how he fares within this universe. It’s a complicated, crazy show at times, and he’ll have to figure out his place in it. (Personally, though, we do think that there are times that Designated Survivor could take a little bit more of a chill pill and slow things down when it comes to all the twists.)
If you have not heard, Lawson is not the only new addition to the Designated Survivor cast this season, as former Royal Pains alum Paulo Costanzo is also coming on board. (Read more about his role here.) However, both of these additions are coming with a major subtraction, given that the series is losing Virginia Madsen as a regular after she played a crucial part in the first season. There is also a new showrunner on board, so expect the Kiefer Sutherland series to look and feel very different at times than it did back when it first premiered.
