Bull season 2 spoilers: Jill Flint to return in premiere
According to Entertainment Weekly, Flint will be back as the skilled attorney and sometimes-romantic partner of Michael Weatherly’s title character, though specifics of her return this time around remain unclear beyond that she’ll be back in the premiere. What we like about the Lindsay character is that in one way or another, she always challenges Bull, whether it be in the courtroom or in his actual life. Bull’s a brilliant guy, but he’s also deeply flawed — he doesn’t open up about his past, his manipulations often go overboard, and he allows his work to run rampant all over every other facet of his life. There are times when this is great for his clients, but it can be pretty terrible for everyone who knows him personally. There’s a reason why he’s went through as many breakups as he has.
Flint’s return comes after Bull had another challenge over the final episodes of season 1 in J.P. Nunnelly (Eliza Dushku), who forged a deal with him after she worked to protect Benny Colon (Freddy Rodriguez) in a case.
The EW report notes that Lindsay will “complicate” Bull’s life in the September premiere, but since that can mean so many different things, it’s a difficult statement to unpack. Flint is appearing on TV this summer as Jordan on The Night Shift, where she’s been a series regular for the past few years.
What else is different for Bull season 2?
One of the big changes is coming in the form of a new showrunner, as Medium / Moonlighting creator Glenn Gordon Caron is stepping into this role. Mark Goffman, who ran the first season of the show, will remain on board as an executive producer. Showrunner swaps after the first season of a show are fairly common, even ones that have attained hit status. Bull was the most-watched new CBS show for the 2016-17 season, and with that there is probably a sense of added pressure on it moving into season 2.
Filming will continue to take place in season 2, and we’ll remain interested in seeing how the show continues to find ways to challenge Bull with different cases. Given that he so frequently wins in the end, the task for the writers is to come up with compelling guest roles and twists and turns in the cases; that way, nothing necessarily feels the same week after week. It’s similar in some ways to a detective series like a Castle where the bad guys are often caught at the end of each episode.
