Queen of the South season 2 episode 5 spoilers: Teresa’s capture

While Queen of the South season 2 episode 5 could have a wide array of different things going on, it may be easy to describe. This is the story of how Teresa finds herself in a terrible position under the capture of El Santo, and the series of odd events that follow. Maybe this episode will have more introspective notes than we’ve seen in some others; or, maybe it will expose a few different cultural elements than we often get a chance to see.

The one thing that we do feel rather confident about at the moment is that this episode will serve as a great opportunity to get a performance from Alice Braga like no other. Judging from the synopsis below, this is the sort of material that any performer would want to sink their teeth into.

Queen of the South season 2 episode 5 synopsis – “Captured by narco-cult leader El Santo, Teresa embarks on a spiritual journey with real-world consequences.”

What’s also worth noting / celebrating about this episode is that it should give Braga a chance to explore some different avenues / do some things that she often doesn’t get a chance to. This is one of those sort of things that any performer strives to do in a long-form project like this. You’re playing the same character, but you want the world around you to evolve.

As for the promo below, it does a very good job of establishing the sense of spirituality (and danger) that Teresa is going to find herself in entering the episode.

The bummer news when it comes to the ratings

While we absolutely don’t foresee the series getting canceled anytime soon, we are experiencing a little more ratings slippage with Queen of the South than we saw through most of the first season.

In this week’s ratings update, we’re here to report that last week’s episode drew a series-low-tying rating of a 0.3, and also dipped under a million viewers for the first time. The average ratings are now just a smidgen under where they were for season 1. That may be a little bit of a bummer given that this is such an addictive show, but we’re all about silver linings here at the site. The big one is that in comparison to the majority of other shows that are out there, it’s remarkable that the show continues to keep as much of its audience as it does. It’s only down a small percentage from season 1, and that’s rare.
