Once Upon a Time season 7: Adelaide Kane, Gabrielle Anwar, more join
According to a report coming in right now via TVLine, the Reign alum is one of five new additions to the show, joining the likes of Burn Notice alum Gabrielle Anwar, Chicago Med actress Mekia Cox, Dania Ramirez of Devious Maids, and Rose Reynolds of Poldark fame.
For the time being, the site notes that only Anwar and Ramirez are set to be series regulars, while the other three actress are all set to recur.
So could all of these people play? That’s another great question given that there aren’t all that many fairy-tale characters of prominence seemingly left for the show to take on. We do absolutely love that this is an interesting, diverse group of people, and that this show is continuing its trend of having strong female characters.
All of these women will join a cast that at present includes longtime holdovers Lana Parrilla, Robert Carlyle, and Colin O’Donoghue; meanwhile, Andrew J. West of The Walking Dead is playing an older version of Henry, while Alison Fernandez of Jane the Virgin is playing the part of his daughter Lucy. Maybe one of these new additions will be Lucy’s mother, but that is something that we won’t have an answer to presumably until the series returns this fall in its new timeslot Friday nights at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
What else do we know at the moment?
The premiere episode is entitled “Hyperion Heights,” which could be both an old-school Disney episode and the name of the show’s new primary setting. Given that so many of the longtime characters (i.e. some of the ones not returning) are still going to be in Storybrooke, we don’t expect to spend all that much time there — beyond of course the opening of the season. Show co-creator Adam Horowitz has already shared a script page indicating that the first scene of the season will be set in that tiny Maine town.
It certainly is clear already that there are going to be many different issues and stumbling blocks that Once Upon a Time season 7 is going to face, with one of the biggest ones being the simple fact that this is a show without Jennifer Morrison, Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jared Gilmore, Emilie de Ravin, and Rebecca Mader. Many of the most-popular characters from the past few seasons are gone, and to go along with that many of the romances. With Morrison only confirmed to appear in the premiere, most of the storytelling for Captain Swan may happen now off-screen. Presumably Snow and Charming are going to be off happy together somewhere, so that’s what we’ll choose to believe in that department.
