Teen Choice Awards 2017: Melissa Benoist, Caity Lotz, Candice Patton top Action TV Actress nods

If there is one category at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards that is competitive like no other, it’s the Choice Action TV Actress one. Think about this for a minute — you’ve got five actors from the CW – DC Comics universe going head to head, and then also Jordana Brewster from Lethal Weapon looking for the ultimate underdog story.

So who will win this year? We’ve got our take on the entire category below, complete with our take on who has the best shot, and also who is probably the most likely to be shut out.

Sizing up the field

Go ahead and rule out Brewster — Lethal Weapon is a fun show, but it’s also not really a teen show and shouldn’t have been considered a part of this in the first place. (We’ll push for it much harder come the People’s Choice Awards early next year.)

The rest of the category is fully of interesting questions, including whether or not Lotz and Benoist will have advantages as series leads, or Panabaker and Patton will cancel each other out as Flash stars.

Who will win

This is a really difficult race to call, but we feel right now that it will probably be Benoist taking home the prize. She plays the most well-known character of any of the five CW nominees, and she’s also coming off of a really good season. With that being said, we know that there are fiercely loyal fanbases for all of the other characters, as well, and Rickards has won many trophies as voted on by the fans.

Who should win

If we were going based solely on performance, we do think Patton had an incredible year with all of the fear and the power that she brought to the Savitar arc. We also do give further credit for her to bringing humanity to a show that is often so much about power. Beyond that, we wouldn’t mind seeing Lotz take it home just because Legends of Tomorrow rarely gets any love.
