Game of Thrones season 7 aftershow to stream on Twitter

Game of Thrones season 7 is not going to have the same sort of digital aftershow that it once did.

Today, it was confirmed (first via The Hollywood Reporter) that After the Thrones, which aired on HBO’s streaming platforms last year, will not return to follow up their latest batch of seven episodes. Instead, the show’s hosts in Andy Greenwald and Chris Ryan will be hosting via Twitter and Periscope a new program entitled Talk the Thrones, which is going to stream following each season 7 episode. Ryan and Greenwald previously hosted a podcast called Watch the Thrones for Grantland, which effectively means that this show has had a ton of names and platforms since its inception.

In a statement confirming the collaboration between his company The Ringer and Twitter, Bill Simmons had the following to say:

“We love Game of Thrones and we love the way Twitter is thinking about content right now, so we jumped at the chance to blow out our Thrones show into an interactive multimedia experience — something that reacts immediately to what just happened, almost like a postgame show in sports … Nobody is equipped to do that better than Twitter. It’s the natural evolution of what we had already established with Chris, Andy, Mallory and Jason.”

The collaboration here absolutely makes since given that Twitter is one of the biggest multimedia platforms in the world, and Game of Thrones is a frequent trending topic on the website to begin with. Pairing the parties together now only seems to make sense, and it may make this aftershow even more successful than it was on HBO NOW / HBO GO back in 2016.

Game of Thrones proper is going to be premiering on HBO come Sunday, July 16. Be sure to stay tuned, as we anticipate there will be even more updates when it comes to the story and some of the battles likely coming as we near its eventual return.
