Scorpion season 3 finale promo takes page from Survivor, uses Jeff Probst

Scorpion season 3 finale promo

With the Scorpion season 3 finale coming up sooner than you’d think (Monday’s episode is the beginning of what is effectively a two-parter), it makes some sense to start the hype now.

Also, it makes since to take advantage of a CBS staple given that you’re telling a story about people marooned on a deserted island. The video below (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly) offers up your first look at the big finale. Not only that, but it also gives you a cameo from none other than Survivor host Jeff Probst as he talks about the keys to survival in these sort of rugged conditions.

Alas, Probst is not appearing himself alongside the geniuses on the beach — he may have actually filmed this while in production for season 35 of his own show — but it’s still fun. It’s also somewhat fun to envision how some of these characters would do in the event they were on Survivor. Walter would insult too many people indirectly and be voted out within the first couple of episodes. Meanwhile, Cabe would be akin to Rudy in season 1, the curmudgeon who is taken out close to the end out of fear that he could possibly win. Paige will be the player who becomes more of a threat than she’s initially envisioned, Happy will be the player who gets blindsided for being too trusting of some of her allies, and Sylvester is probably the likable underdog who makes it to the end and wins it all.

So what about Toby? Well, he’s probably the guy who enjoys the game aspect of it the most, but doesn’t have the same down-to-earth charm that Sylvester has. If we were to use the Survivor metaphor further, Ralph’s too young to play and therefore spends most of his time at base camp with Probst before coming out for the family visit.

We could take this further and talk about how the actors would do on the show, but we’d be here all day. In context, the finale is about Happy and Toby’s honeymoon going south as the two of them have to figure out how to escape their current situation with the help of the rest of the team. Tensions will be high; they always are when you’re forced to spend this much time with other people, even if they happen to be people you like.
