Alec Baldwin discusses Saturday Night Live future as Donald Trump

Alec Baldwin

Is it possible that Alec Baldwin could continue to play Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live beyond this season? That is the question on the minds of many. We know that the demand is there from the fan perspective, but Baldwin himself has been somewhat coy regarding whether or not he wants to keep doing it. While he receives countless praise and may even get an Emmy nomination for the role, the fact still remains that it’s probably not the most fun impression to do. It’s an impression with a negative tone, and the subject of the President sends many people into a frenzy in the first place.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin had the following to say now on his future as the character, including just how long he’s going to continue to be a part of the show:

“I think I’m going to do Trump on and off with SNL for a little while … I’m going to do it for the rest of the season and beyond that, I don’t know if they want me to. People always ask me but we’ll see. I don’t know how much more people want to see — and what will happen next year.”

We think that the show would be silly to drop Baldwin as Trump, and even Alec knows that this role is a way to keep himself in the press so that he can do other things. Take, for example, the new movie The Boss Baby that he is promoting — it’s hard to imagine that he would be getting anywhere near the sort of publicity for it if he was not a part of the show. He can bring that to almost any property these days, which makes him all the more valuable to anyone who is interested in working with him.

If we had it our way, will be getting Baldwin as Trump until the end of the President’s first term — even if it is more sporadic over time. Eventually, you would think that things would get a little more uneventful; however, that’s not the case. We’re almost wondering if we’ve seen more of Trump in one season than we’ve seen in eight full years of Obama being President. That’s an impression that the show couldn’t exactly figure out what to do with.
