The Amazing Race 29 premiere sneak peek: Our take of first 7 minutes

Amazing Race 29 premiere sneak peek

We’ve got an Amazing Race 29 premiere sneak peek for you below, and we gotta say that in spite of whatever trepidation we may have over the twist, all it took was watching this clip for two minutes to get immediately excited over what we’re going to be seeing on the show this season.

The first takeaway that we had about the cast is strictly how BUFF many of these people are. You’ve got several cops, a drill sergeant, a pro snowboarder, and a veteran / athlete who lost his leg fighting overseas and uses that as motivation to be even stronger. This may be the most physical edition of the show we’ve seen to date. These are the people who will probably win the season in the end — we’re already aware of that, and we also understand if that happens.

Yet, simultaneously there are some underdog contenders we find ourselves starting to root for already. Take, for example, Floyd the college drum major. As a former drum major (albeit high school rather than college), we find ourselves immediately drawn to him. Meanwhile, Vanck kind of looks like a guy we would’ve been friends with college and he comes from that same sort of nerdy space. We also like Liz the auctioneer, just because this is the sort of unique job we always find fun on the race and she seems like someone who’d be a good team player no matter where she ends up.

Ultimately, this should prove to be a fascinating social experiment. Do we wish that this was paired with a little more of a “normal” season of the show? Absolutely, but we are in a position now where beggars can’t be choosers since the ratings are what they are. (If you missed it, we did write a post recently about how the show’s season 30 odds could be better than you think — at least if certain things work in the show’s favor tonight.) For tonight, we want to do our best to just put the future of the show in the back of our head and just enjoy a great hour of entertainment and racing. This is still one of our great reality TV loves, and we’ve seen every single episode through 28 seasons so far.
