Could ‘Suits’ season 6, season 7 lead to Gina Torres spin-off show?

As it turns out, the “Suits” universe may not be done with one Jessica Pearson just yet.

Many months after the character was killed off of the USA series, we’re now starting to hear buzz that Gina Torres could return with her own show themed all around this character. The news was first reported by TVLine, claiming that the project was being quietly worked on at present. Given that season 6 is almost over, our feeling is that if something like this were to happen, it would be during season 7 when we’d start to get whispers of it.

Speaking to the website, a USA rep merely had the following to say:

“The Suits team is currently focused on the remaining episodes of Season 6 and what’s next for the characters when they return in Season 7.”

Here is what we know about the possibility of such a move. When Torres first departed the series in the middle of this season, the logic behind it was that the actress wanted to be closer to her home in Los Angeles and her family. The series proper films in Toronto, and that is not an easy trip to make. You’re in another country, and those flights can be long … let alone the lines to get through customs. Torres did have another pilot lined up for this past season, but it was not ordered to series.

When we last saw Jessica, she was departing to live a new life, potentially with Jeff Malone, in Chicago. A new spin-off could easily take place there, and could film in Los Angeles or somewhere else substituting for the city. There aren’t any real limitations on it, and you could play around with it to your heart’s content.

While we start to hear buzz about a possible Torres spin-off, we do still wonder what the future of “Suits” proper could hold. Few USA dramas have gone beyond an eighth season, and we’re only one confirmed season away from that. Meanwhile, the cast is only getting more busy, with one of them becoming a tabloid fixture though really no fault of their own other than who they choose to spend their personal life with. (We don’t want to get into it, but it’s really disgusting how some members of the press have invaded Meghan’s life.)
