‘Arrow’ season 5, episode 11 preview: Searching for a new Black Canary
Wednesday night’s new episode of “Arrow” is going to be about recruitment. Specifically, it’s about trying to figure out who could be the next Black Canary. As you remember, one of the last things Laurel said to Oliver Queen is that she wants him to find a way to continue her legacy. Going through what he did with Black Siren last week was enough for him to want to ratchet up that search for the new Canary to 11.
With that said, there’s an odd plurality going on in the mind of Mr. Queen at the moment — he wants to find a new Canary, but at the same time he’s not exactly interesting in considering any of the candidates that the team is bringing to him in the sneak peek below. Everyone presents Oliver with various qualified crime-fighters, and he makes it clear that none of them are worthy. This leads Rory to (hilariously) make up the most amazing candidate ever for the role, only for Oliver to also turn them down. This in turn makes his point all the clearer: It doesn’t really matter who the team brings to Oliver, since he’s ultimately going to turn them down.
Eventually, we do know that a possible candidate is going to come in the form of Tina Boland, someone who’s supposedly been a vigilante in Hub City and beyond for a rather long time. Buzz on the street already suggests that she could be the new new Canary, and that may be true; however, it seems a little wrong to jump to that assumption just yet. The thing about “Arrow” in particular is that they don’t always send you down the most predictable road in their storytelling. They’ll make you believe one thing, and then flip the script around on its head.
