‘Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’ star Rachel Bloom writes song for ‘Supergirl’ – ‘The Flash’ crossover
There are obviously many different things to look forward to when it comes to both “Supergirl” and “The Flash,” but the upcoming crossover episode featuring the two shows is one that is going to get plenty of discussion. After all, we’re talking here about a musical! The two shows will be utilizing the singing talents of Grant Gustin, Melissa Benoist, Jesse L. Martin, and more; not only that, but we know that Darren Criss is going to be coming on board to play the part of the evil villain Music Meister.
Now, there’s yet another reason to be excited about this — Rachel Bloom, one of the geniuses behind the awesome “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” over at The CW, has a role in writing one of the songs entitled “Superfriends.” It’s a role that she offered herself up for, knowing that she has a tremendous amount of experience doing it thanks to her working on so many songs on her own show. Here is what she had to say in a new statement via BuzzFeed:
“As soon as I heard that they were doing a musical crossover, I e-mailed [CW president] Mark Pedowitz who connected me to Greg [Berlanti] and Andrew [Kreisberg] … I immediately offered them my services. As soon as they picked one of my song ideas, I hopped on the phone with my old Robot Chicken boss Tom Root and we brainstormed and, based on that brainstorm, I wrote up the song ‘Superfriends.’ I am so excited to contribute more to the upward trend that is musicals in television and film. Music can be one of the most amazing and efficient forms of storytelling and character development. Also, it was really fun to write a comedy song for two superheroes.”
This song will be performed by Gustin and Benoist during the episode, and you should consider this something to be very excited about! The relationship between these two is very fun, and we like that they can have this friendship and bond that comes from the two of them being in this very unusual place in life — and that it doesn’t have to be romantic.
This episode will air in March; we’ll have further news about it as it comes out.
What do you think about the idea of this song, and are you glad that Bloom is writing it? Share some of your thoughts in the comments!
