‘The Vampire Diaries’ series finale: Nina Dobrev officially returning
Fans of “The Vampire Diaries,” this is not a drill: Nina Dobrev is going to be returning to the landmark CW series for the upcoming series finale airing this March.
It was Dobrev herself who first confirmed the news in a post on Instagram, making it clear that this was not a Throwback Thursday post and that she is officially going to be coming back. She also revealed through this post that “I Was Feeling Epic” is the title for the finale, and that it is being written by executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson. Prior to this season, Williamson had not been credited for co-writing an episode since 2011. However, he worked on both this episode and also the show’s premiere as a way of bringing everything full-circle.
As for what that title could mean, it’s easy to figure out a lot of different theories and ideas. Maybe this is the ultimate battle between Damon, Stefan, and Cade, or maybe we’re going to be looking far into the future here in order to see precisely what Damon’s life with Elena could be like. As of right now, the only way for her to return would be if Bonnie were to die; maybe everyone found a way around that. (Luckily, Bonnie seems to have decided to not become a vampire, knowing that doing so would mean that Elena would have a hard time ever walking the earth again.)
We probably should backpedal a little bit with this story one reason and one reason only: There is absolutely NO guarantee at the moment that Dobrev is returning to play Elena. Given where we saw Katherine go on her last appearance on the show, coupled with the presence of Cade now, it is very well possible that we could end up seeing this character come back in some form. Who knows? Maybe we’ll end up getting both and this is going to be a “best of both worlds” sort of situation at least for us. It’s hard to guarantee that Katherine’s return would be great for many people.
Let’s now not get too far ahead of ourselves, since there are still many more episodes of “The Vampire Diaries” to get through before we get to this point. The latest installment is going to air on The CW Friday night, and we will have some further news about it as we get closer to it airing.
