‘Atlanta,’ ‘American Crime Story’ season 2 will not air until 2018; Lady Gaga – ‘Crime Story’ rumor denied
There are a lot of important stories of note coming out of FX’s panel at the TCA Winter Press Tour on Thursday, so let’s go them piece by piece here.
“Atlanta” season 2 held until 2018 – Due largely in part to creator / star Donald Glover’s other commitments, which include him starring in the upcoming Young Han Solo “Star Wars” movie, the show is not going to return with new episodes in 2017. This news is coming off of “Atlanta” winning the Golden Globe for Comedy Series, and Glover in turn winning for Actor in a Comedy Series. The show will clearly be missed, but at the same time, this does give prospective viewers out there a chance to catch up on it.
“American Crime Story” season 2 also delayed – We’ve known that the new season for some time would be set around Hurricane Katrina, but for a wide array of reasons, it hasn’t come together completely just yet. The team wants time to get the story right, and because of the potential for actual hurricanes, there are only so many times in which production would interested in filming there. This news means that there could be two separate seasons of “American Crime Story” in 2018, given that the “Versace/Cunanan: American Crime Story” season is also set to premiere at some point during that year.
Lady Gaga not playing Donatella Versace (for now) – Show executive producer Ryan Murphy denied speculation of this at the TCA event today, but it still makes a little bit of sense why this began in the first place. Just remember for a minute or two here that she has a great relationship with the prolific showrunner, and there are some clear physical similarities between her and Versace that would make the rumor mill churn out of control.
Once there is some more news to report on when it comes to any of these shows, rest assured that we’ll have it for you here.
