‘The Good Wife’ spin-off: Key detail about Rose Leslie’s ‘The Good Fight’ character revealed
With us finally getting closer to the spin-off for “The Good Wife” in “The Good Fight” coming on CBS (before it eventually makes the move over to the All Access streaming service), we’re glad to have a few more details to share about one of its key characters — and a decision that is very welcome in particular at this network.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the new character Maia (“Game of Thrones” alum Rose Leslie), who is the goddaughter of Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), will be a lesbian. The photo above features her with her girlfriend Amy (played by Helene Yorke, “Masters of Sex”). Here is what executive producer Robert King had to say about the photo:
“That’s Maia’s longtime girlfriend, who is a lawyer herself … She graduated from law school a while ago. Now it’s Maia’s turn to graduate from law school.”
We hope that there is going to be a time where having a major character on a network show be LGBTQ is not a headline anymore and will just be part of the everyday television landscape, but unfortunately we aren’t there yet. — especially when you look at how many LGBTQ characters who are in supporting roles end up being killed off. “The Good Fight” seems to have a bit more of an ensemble feel to the show and the fact that Maia enters the series in an established relationship is something different from what we’re accustomed to seeing.
The story for “The Good Fight” will pick up a year after “The Good Wife,” with Maia’s reputation being destroyed thanks to a financial scam that wipes away much of her godmother’s savings. She and Diane eventually join a new firm in Chicago, and in the process join familiar face Lucca Quinn (Cush Jumbo). Sarah Steele is another “Good Wife” alum who will be a regular on the new series. Guest appearances from many other actors are still a possibility, but unconfirmed beyond Gary Cole reprising his role as Kurt on a recurring bases.
Hopefully, we’ll get a further preview in the weeks to come, but for now head over here if you are interested in seeing some other news regarding “The Good Fight,” and some of what you can expect to see from it. (Photo: CBS)
