Is ‘Game of Thrones’ season 7 actually casting Conor McGregor in mystery role?

LogoCould one of the strangest casting rumors surrounding “Game of Thrones” season 7 turn out to be true?

While we cannot comment for sure on the truthfulness of this story, UFC President Dana White recently told FOX Sports that famed fighter Conor McGregor had been booked for some sort of role on the show, and it’s something that he is incredibly excited to do:

“I did hear that and I knew that a few months ago that they were interested in putting him in the show. I’m glad he did it. It will be great … The show’s huge, it’s awesome and I’m excited for him.”

If it’s true then this is certainly exciting news for him, but at the same time it is rather hard to imagine him playing an extremely important part in the series unless he has some sort of acting experience. McGregor is not an actor by trade, and “Game of Thrones” is not a show that has shown any want or need to do stunt-casting. Our gut reaction to hearing this news at the moment is that maybe this is an opportunity for the fighter to have an audition-of-sorts, and he can take this and use it in order to showcase his abilities for other projects in the future.

Given his popularity, we do think that this casting will further generate a little bit of excitement within the UFC community, in particular overseas. “Game of Thrones” films in Northern Ireland, which means that at the very least, it won’t be an extensive trip for the fighter to get up to some of their primary locations — provided of course that he’s not shipped off to one of the other places that the show films.
