‘Big Brother OTT’ facing uncertain season 2 future; houseguests could return for other seasons
With the finale for “Big Brother: Over the Top” coming on CBS tomorrow night, it is interesting to start to look a little bit ahead to what the future could be for the franchise as a whole.
As of right now, there is still no word on if that future will come to fruition. In a new and in-depth interview with The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Allison Grodner made it clear that no one over at the company informed her of a decision just yet, but it definitely seems as though it’s something she could consider doing in the future:
“… [It’s] a decision CBS and CBS All Access and [CBS] Interactive will be making. But certainly we all had a lot of fun doing it. What we proved is that it’s not the same as the summer show so ideally no one feels like it stepped on the summer show’s toes in any way. It was a really new and innovative way to see a competition program play out, to see audience interaction and participation and how that can affect a series in real time and it was a lot of fun to do.”
We do feel like there are some changes that should probably be made to the format, specifically when it comes to America’s nominee since it turns much of the fan following into the morality police or tips the scales too much in the favor of a particular alliance. You want winning Head of Household to still matter, and this season having that power was almost akin to slowly watching air be let out of a balloon. There really wasn’t a whole lot of incentive for anyone to win it, and that in the end compromises much of the excitement of the game.
Grodner also made it clear that the producers aren’t ruling out contestants from this season returning down the road, although they were cast specifically to take part in this experiment. She also made it clear that because of the “big builds” of the summer series competitions, there are no plans to change things up for these to play out on the live feeds. The show may look, however, at the no-napping rule for the summer series — at least during the first part of the season where there are still a number of people left in the game. She also said that many votes this season were close, which isn’t a surprise at all given some of the data that is online.
One other thing that is interesting right now is that per our own exit polling (click on the story below for more there), both Jason Roy and Morgan Willett have slightly more than 49% of the vote, making them just about even. Kryssie, as expected, is barely registering with around 1% of people probably voting as a joke.
We’ll be back later to discuss the individual campaign pleas of many of the remaining houseguests over at the link here.
