‘True Detective’ season 3 still possible; no word on ‘The Night Of’ season 2
When you are a network with the prestige of an HBO, one of the luxuries that you have at your disposal is ultimately an ability to make a number of your own decisions when it comes to developing content. There’s less pressure to put out new seasons of your shows every year, and instead, you can allow yourself to take more of a back seat and get content together for whenever you feel like it is ready.
For the latest example of this very thing, you don’t have to look further than what network programming head Casey Bloys had to say, per Entertainment Weekly, on the subject of starting to look more towards the future for shows like “True Detective” and “The Night Of,” which have generated much attention during their time on the air:
“They’re thinking about ideas, and when they find something, that’s when I’ll hear from them. I don’t have anything to report on either of them other than they’re thinking about what the best-next version is.”
Of the two, we’d argue right now that it’s far more likely that we’ll get more of “The Night Of” as opposed to “True Detective” based on a number of different factors, with critical acclaim being somewhere high on the list. Also, “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto has an overall deal, and there’s been talk about him working on a “Perry Mason” reboot with Robert Downey Jr. that would give him a chance to do something a little bit different.
Given where we are right now in the year, if one of the two of them is brought back, our sentiment is that we probably won’t see them in a substantial way until we get around to 2018, at the very earliest.
