‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: First look at Dolph Lundgren as Konstantin Kovar
On the fifth season of “Arrow” to date, the Big Bad we’ve been introduced to goes by the name of Prometheus, and we know that he has a personal vendetta against Oliver Queen that dates back to his past somehow. For our other major villain in Konstantin Kovar, we’re actually going back to the past. Oliver specifically joined the Bratva for the sake of trying to figure out precisely how to get to him, and he’ll be meeting him soon in Russia. Just to make things all the more exciting, he’s played by action-movie icon Dolph Lundgren — and your first photo of him is above!
As you would expect given his position and place of power within Russia, Kovar looks very much like a dapper, powerful guy — almost like a classy bond villain. He’s also going to be a rather difficult adversary for Oliver to take down. This is what executive producer Marc Guggenheim had to say about him in a piece from Entertainment Weekly:
“Kovar is very much a villain certainly in the Arrow vein, which is to say he’s pretty badass, he’s pretty evil, but he, of course, does not think of himself as such … He thinks of himself as doing the right thing, which, in that sense, makes him very similar to a lot of the villains that we’ve had in the past. What is interesting about Kovar is he has a mix of intelligence and physical presence that we haven’t necessarily seen. He’s physically bigger than a lot of our villains that we’ve had in the past.”
We have of course wondered whether or not Kovar could secretly be Prometheus, but for the time being we don’t consider that a likely possibility given that with Lundgren’s size, you would think that would be a defining characteristic of the character — and we haven’t quite noticed anything as such for him so far.
