‘Arrow’ season 5 spoilers: Stephen Amell on possible Oliver Queen romances
Are we about to see a little more love in the life of Oliver Queen on “Arrow“? Maybe “love” is the wrong word, but this was at one point a central part of his personality, and it is something that has since been somewhat abandoned. The relationship with Felicity is certainly popular, but she’s in another relationship. Therefore, it makes little sense for him to spend his time sitting around and pining for the day when she comes back into his life ready to date again.
So with all of this in mind, it appears that it may be time for Oliver to dive back once more into the dating pool! This is something that star Stephen Amell teased further in a new interview with TVLine, which came from the show’s set in Vancouver:
“I don’t know if he’s ready to move on, but it’s time for Oliver to have another relationship … Earlier this year I was speaking with [showrunner] Wendy Mericle, and I was like, ‘Look, there’s two things that we’re no longer allowed to write about Oliver: We’re no longer allowed to call him a billionaire, because … he lost his family fortune. And we’re currently not allowed to say ‘playboy’ — he’s dated one woman since Season 2, and he had a fling with Isabel Rochev. That’s it.’”
Who is one possible love interest? Think reporter Susan Williams (Carly Pope), who Oliver’s interacted with now — even if a good chunk of it came via Christopher Chance a.k.a. Human Target, who proved to actually be a better politician in some ways than Oliver is. While he didn’t stop her efforts looking into his past, for a brief period of time, it appeared that he did. If Pope continues to make appearances, that means that her own year is getting all the busier, given that she’s also got an arc right now on “Suits” as a corporate architect and fiancee to Louis Litt.
Do we want to root for Oliver and Felicity? Sure, but we think the idea of Oliver out there embracing that playboy part of his past is something organic to the character.
