NBC’s ‘The Voice’ video: Watch Michael Sanchez, Sa’Rayah’s Knockout Round performance
While NBC hasn’t always been so kind about releasing sneak peeks in advance for “The Voice” this season, they did present us with just that leading up to Monday night’s Knockout Round episode. We’re going to see the remaining contestants hit the stage in hopes of getting into the Live Playoffs, and the video below highlights two members of Team Alicia Keys in Michael Sanchez vs. Sa’Rayah.
Read on below for our take, and rest assured there are no spoilers. The internet’s gotten a little bad with those this season.
Michael Sanchez, “Just the Two of Us” – There’s a lot of good soul and funk in this performance. Michael looks a little bit like a guy who does your taxes, but he can seriously sing and has this really smooth tone. The thing that he’s gotta figure out is what he wants to do in order to better himself in the event he makes it to the live shows. Our biggest suggestion for him is to find music that is a little bit more current and focus more on that. Otherwise, he may be a tad too dated with some of his choices.
Sa’Rayah, “Ain’t Nobody” – In terms of vocal ability, we think Sa’Rayah has far and away the bigger range of these two. Yet, at the same time what she lacks here specifically is control. She’s a little all over the place with intonation and the song choice doesn’t fully work for her. With some more mentoring from Alicia, she could figure that out. We do certainly think she’s on-point in terms of her stage presence and knowing what sort of performer she wants to be.
If we had to pick a winner right now, we think that Michael did the better overall job and should advance. Sa’Rayah has potentially even more potentially, but didn’t nail it on this particular performance.
