‘Criminal Minds’ season 12: Check out new photo of Adam Rodriguez as Luke Alvez!

There have obviously been so many headlines when it comes to “Criminal Minds” season 12 — from the promotion of Aisha Tyler to the return of Paget Brewster to the departure of Thomas Gibson — that there have been some notable things here and there that have become somewhat lost in the shuffle. One of them is the arrival of Adam Rodriguez.

Luckily, we’re here to remedy that! If you look above, you can get a first look at the actor in his role of Luke Alvez, a prominent new character who will first be linked to the BAU as a result of the prison incident at the end of last season. With so many former UnSubs on the run, it has been his job to try and round many of these people up over the course of the summer. By the time we get around to the premiere, there will be a smaller number of them still at large.

With that, Alvez’s knowledge of how to handle escaped prisoners, coupled with the BAU’s knowledge of some people they helped to put away, should prove to be a rather formidable combination. They’re going to need all hands on deck to figure out how to wrangle these people up before something terrible happens. There are certainly people in danger, and one of them could be Gibson’s own Hotch, given that we still do not know how precisely he is going to be written out of the series.

Rest assured, once we know more on Alvez, Hotch, or any other prominent character moving into season 12, we’ll have that news for you here.
