‘Supernatural’ season 12 spoilers: How long will Mary stick around?
At the end of “Supernatural” season 11, the show left us on a rather-epic cliffhanger courtesy of Mary Winchester coming back into the world. It’s definitely the sort of thing worthy of some excitement … at least provided that the show is doing something epic with her. After all, the last thing we presume many fans want is to spend all of this time building up to this character, only for her to be a small flash-in-the-pan who is gone before she has a really big role in the season.
Well, rest assured that it seems as though we’re going to be getting at least a reasonable dose of Mary over the course of season 12. Speaking per TVLine, executive producer Andrew Dabb notes that “she’s not a one-episode character, let’s put it that way. That’s something we’re going to explore over the course of the season.”
We’re not sure that Amara is necessarily the right comparison given that these are very different characters, but we wonder if structurally there will be some similarities where she turns up, disappears for a few episodes, and then comes back for a couple more. Maybe she won’t last a full season as a key component of the story, but we do like that we’re not just addressing her history with Sam and Dean before moving her on after an episode or two.
“Supernatural” premieres this fall on The CW, and judging from the quotes we’ve seen about there being many monsters and other threats this season, we figure that the boys are going to have their hands plenty full even when Mary is not around.
