‘Supergirl’ season 2 spoilers: Meet Mon-El, Miss Martian

While “Supergirl” has already given us an opportunity to meet many aliens — including the title character herself — there’s always room for more! That is what we’re happy to report on today courtesy of some of the latest news from the TCA Summer Press Tour.

First things first, let’s get to resolving one of the largest questions that has been out there since the end of the first season, and that is the identity of the person in the pod. We already knew that Chris Wood of “The Vampire Diaries” and “Containment” was playing the part, and we now also know that this part will be Mon-El. For those unfamiliar with the comics, the character (otherwise known as Lar Gand) is similar in many ways to Supergirl and Superman, including some of his abilities. However, he has a deadly weakness to lead, which could cause some trouble for him if the show goes in this direction.

Meanwhile, the show has also cast Sharon Leal (“Grimm”) in the role of Miss Martian. (Warning: Comic spoilers ahead.) We’re very curious to see whether or not the show takes a part of the storyline here from the source, given that at one point Miss Martian pretends to be a Green Martian, only to reveal later that she is actually one of the White Martians. As you know from season 1, J’onn J’onzz in particular does not have a particular great history with White Martians.

“Supergirl” will premiere on The CW later this fall, and we’re going to have some further news about it in the near future. Stay tuned…
