ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 6 spoilers: ‘Glee’ alum recast as Jake Ballard’s wife
When the sixth season of “Scandal” returns in the new year with new episodes, there is one clear change that you’re going to notice if you’re an eagle-eyed fan: Jake Ballard’s wife will be played by someone different.
Per TVLine, Joelle Carter of “Justified” fame will not return, which is not too much of a surprise given that she is now a series regular over on “Chicago Justice” and therefore will not have a whole lot of room in her schedule. Instead, former “Glee” and “Vikings” actress Jessalyn Gilsig is being brought on board in the role.
The big takeaway that we have from this casting is that the show clearly does have some big plans for this character, and it will not be of the flash-in-the-pan variety. After all, both Carter and Gilsig are talented, accomplished actresses who could land roles on many different shows; “Scandal” is lucky to have both of them.
The hard thing for now is waiting for such an extended period of time to see new episodes of the show air. ABC did try to hype up the story of season 6 at TCA earlier this week after a polarizing fifth season on the air. While there have been plenty of rumors out there over the past little while as to whether or not season 6 could be the end of the road for the series, nobody has officially signed off on that being the case whether it be the network or creator Shonda Rhimes.
