‘The View’ sets Sara Haines as season 20 co-host
Following the departure of Michelle Collins, “The View” has made the lineup for the upcoming 20th season all the more official.
Today, Sara Haines, lifestyle editor for “Good Morning America,” has been officially brought in as a full-time co-host for the season. She joins the likes of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Candace Cameron Bure, Raven-Symoné, and fellow ABC News host Paula Faris. This marks an opportunity obviously for her to share more of her voice, and hopefully in the process it will give this show some stability.
We’ve made it no secret our feeling about the problems with “The View.” Namely, the show struggles from an issue of having significant turnover on an almost-annual basis and expecting that the same number of viewers will keep watch. People become attached to co-hosts, and as a result of that, they get rather angry when they leave. This is an issue that one way or another, ABC has to figure out a way to fix in the event they want to ever be a dominating force in this spot.
Granted, they also have other problems, including delivering content that is relevant enough in order to secure long-term viewers away. This isn’t like when the show first started, when there were few other things to watch during the day. Now, you’ve got Netflix, more cable news options, and of course all sorts of internet-based options to check out. “The View” needs its own voice again, and content beyond the occasional fight that goes viral between the hosts.
